XC POLYMER
PRODUCT DATA SHEET
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
XC- POLYMER is a special additive to water based drilling fluids. This product imparts the mud
with the unique property of
‘shear thinning’ ( i.e. making it a highly thioxtropic non-Newtonian
drilling fluid).
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION:
XC- POLYMER is an industrial-grade product based on Xanthan gum Biopolymer made by the
action of Xanthomonas bacteria on Carbohydrates.
PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:
Appearance: cream coloured, free flowing powder
Solubility(20
°C): very soluble in fresh and salt water.
Temperature Stability: approx. 150
°C (320 °F)
Toxicity: non- toxic
pH (1% in water): 7.0 approx.
APPLICATION:
XC- POLYMER ( may be added to all fresh-water, salt water and gyp drilling fluids. The product has
a high resistance to bi-valent salt solutions and is compatible with virtually all common drilling
fluid additives.
XC- POLYMER increases the viscosity of the drilling fluid at low shear rates, thus increasing the
carrying capacity for drill solids and ensuring good hole cleaning. At high shear rates, which occur
at the bit, the drilling fluid treated with XC- POLYMER is low-viscous, thus also ensuring high
penetration rates.
TREATMENT:
XC POLYMER may be added directly through the hopper at quantities of 1-6 Kg./m
3 (0.35 - 2.1
Lb./bbl); depending on the desired viscosity and on the salt content of the drilling fluid.
REMARKS:
XC POLYMER should be added at a rate no faster than 15 minutes per sacks to ensure a homogeneous
distribution of the product thoughout the system.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
XC- POLYMER should be handled wearing a dust mask to prevent fine particle inhalation and to
sweep up the spilled product due to the danger of slippage when wet. In case of eye or skin contact,
simply flush with plenty of water.
STORAGE:
XC- POLYMER should be stored in a cool dry place away from ***** flames or excessive heat. If
the delivered sacks are undamaged and properly stored, BIOPOLYMER will retain its properties
for at least two (2) years.
PACKAGING:
XC- POLYMER is packaged in palletized 25 Kg. multi-ply export paper sacks.
